Lili and Erich were our friends from the mid 1960s; we were drawn together initially by common interests in Jewish art and particularly in numismatics. But their warmth and grace extended to our entire family, enriching our lives in so very many ways over the years. Lili's celebrated accomplishments as a calligrapher and artist were shared from the beginning as were Erich's as a printer and linguist. Lili volunteered her expertise as a lecturer for the Harry Friedman Society at the Jewish Museum on several occasions and as a friend she generously donated the fruits of her calligraphic skills to us personally, as she also did for the American Numismatic Society and many other cultural organizations. When Rudi and I read your email last week, we knew that our world had lost a spark of extraordinary beauty and brightness.
That picture of our dear Lili as a lovely young woman took me back sixty years, almost to the day, when I met Lili for the first time. As a special friend she wrote our wedding invitation. It was a work of art. Rudi always has said that he fell in love with Lili the first time he saw her, and it didn't take me long to discover why and to "fall" for her as well. In all the years that followed, on occasions with family or friends, it was Lili who brought her brightness, her warmth and laughter, her joy in being there ... her gift for us.
Among her colleagues her generosity was legendary; with sage advice, helpful comments and professional connections all shared with an open heart. Lili's enthusiasm and her letter for me containing two beautiful sheets of superb calligraphy; one with lists of books and institutions, the other a list of names and phone numbers with "you must call them" written in red... were what launched my career as an illuminator. Lili has always insisted otherwise but I am certain.
We are fortunate to have been counted among Lili's friends and she has enriched our lives.

Lili (aka Mrs Wronker) gave me funny shiny alphabet cookies - one of my favorite (and odd) childhood memories. They were made in Germany and not allowed in my house and because they were German these unbelievably delicious cookies were forbidden for me (which made them even more delicious!) Mrs. Wronker drew pictures of me and she gave a record about Purim (I still remember two of the songs). She inspired me to have better handwriting (oh yes, she did!). She showed me pictures of a civilized Germany, a Germany that existed before they slaughtered all of their Jews. I loved visiting Rona's & Eytan's house - it was a rabbit's warren of books and art and limitlessly fascinating things. Who has Roman coins, a printing press and wishnicks in their living room?! Mrs. Wronker was a gentle woman, a kind woman and a very inspiring person.

Lilli was a very, caring beautiful young woman during my time at Stoatley Rough School during WWII in Haslemere England . I remember her helping me during some difficult times. She was a wonderful artist and belonged to the BIG Girl group by us sub teen boys. - John Obermeyer
